Intra-articular hydrocortisone in osteo-arthrosis.

چکیده
There is no doubt about the value of intraarticular hydrocortisone in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Controversy has arisen however about its value in the treatment of osteo-arthrosis. Hollander, who introduced this useful form of therapy, has remained an advocate of its use in both conditions (Hollander, 1966). Because of the lack of distinction between the response in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and those with osteo-arthrosis, it is not always easy to evaluate previous reports (Duff, 1956; Zuckner, Machek, and Ahern, 1956; Bonner, 1959).

Comparison of intra-articular cortisone analogues in osteo-arthritis of the knee.
The use of intra-articular steroids in the treatment of osteo-arthritis of the knee joints has not been much discussed in the literature. Burgess (1957) states that intra-articular hydrocortone is of most value in joints distended by synovial fluid. Williams (1958) found that hydrocortisone tertiarybutylacetate was effective over a longer period than hydrocortisone, but that both might dramatic...

The use of intra-articular hydrocortisone acetate in the treatment of osteo-arthritis has been shown to produce a temporary improvement of symptoms in many cases (Hollander, Stoner, Brown, and De Moor, 1951), although enthusiasm for this method has been tempered by warnings of the possibility of increasing the damage in joints subjected to excessive use in the periods of freedom from symptoms (...
متن کاملIntra-articular therapy in osteo-arthritis; comparison of hydrocortisone acetate and hydrocortisone tertiary-butylacetate.
The intra-articular injection of hydrocortisone acetate is commonly used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, although its action in this disease has received less careful study than in rheumatoid arthritis. In 1955 a less soluble ester, hydrocortisone tertiary-butylacetate (TBA) was developed for intraarticular therapy with the claim that its effects were more pronounced and of longer duration ...

Relatively little has been published about the treatment of osteo-arthritis. Therapy consists mainly of analgesic drugs and local measures such as intra-articular corticosteroids and short-wave diathermy. Few controlled trials have been done and it is difficult to evaluate some reports owing to lack of distinction of response in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and those with osteo-arthritis ...
متن کاملHydrocortisone tertiary-butylacetate for intra-articular therapy in rheumatic diseases.
In arthritic individuals who have only one or two peripheral joints causing difficulty, it would seem advisable to treat these joints locally by direct intraarticular injection of medication in an effort to decrease the incidence and severity of toxicity associated with systemic therapy. The first very effective anti-rheumatic preparation for intraarticular injection was hydrocortisone acetate ...
